Unitary Plan team meeting 25 Oct 2012: update

Dear Coalition Members
A huge thank you to all members who attended the meeting with the Unitary Plan team on Thursday. It was a fantastic turn out and demonstrated to Council that we know what we are talking about and we are not going away. I know some members are concerned that Council thinking has not changed and we are going to get more of what hasn’t worked in the past. However I am cautiously optimistic that there has been a slight shift in attitude at least. The strength of the Coalition is definitely an advantage and our best shot at getting some real change. I agree there is still a long way to go and we need to keep the pressure on. Letters to the editor are always a good idea so keep them coming.

The team from the Deputy Mayors’ office will be sending you the minutes and the PowerPoint this coming week. We also took notes and if you would like a copy of those please email me.

Tomorrow night Geoff Houtman, Allan Matson and I will be representing the Coalition at the Consultative Leaders Forum. It will be interesting to see the approach taken at that meeting.

We are still keen to increase the Coalition’s membership (39 at last count) so let me know of any other groups that we could approach to join. There will be another meeting with Council before the end of the year so those groups unable to come last week have not missed out.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Warm regards
